For the past 18 years, The World Bodypainting Festival has been the premiere global event celebrating the art of body painting. The 2015 show proved that the art of the incredible craft is growing stronger and more popular every year. More than simply a body painting exhibition, the event includes an amazing festival energy with live music and DJ sets, restaurant and bar areas, and exhibition space where product companies can showcase and sell their products to pros and makeup fanatics alike.
Alex Barendregt has produced the event since its inception and much has changed over the nearly two decades since the event launched with only eight artists competing from Austria and Germany.
The 2015 event, which took place in early July across four acres at Lake Worthersee in Austria, drew more than 28,000 attendees for the weeklong program. The event featured the World Bodypainting Academy, performances from more than two dozen DJs and live music acts and more than 350 body painting teams from more than 50 countries.
There were competitors from literally every corner of the globe. Artists came from across Europe and North America and as far as South Africa, Australia, Maldives, India, Australia, China, Japan, Columbia, Chile and Brazil. These, along with dozens more countries all coming together to celebrate the art of bodypainting at a truly one-of-a-kind event.
