From the music that came out of CBGB’s and Max’s Kansas City to classic movies like Eyes of Laura Mars, Party Girl and Desperately Seeking Susan even in my childhood New York City loomed large as a place that influenced and inspired me. For over two decades this city has been home to James Vincent and while businesses are constantly opening and closing and the face of the city is constantly changing, it is still a place where people move from all over the world to pursue their dreams as makeup artists and more. Here, James shares some of his favorite places for and brings us back in the New York Groove.

1. ARTISTS & FLEAS
This multi-merchant marketplace has been disrupting retail for more than a decade by delivering ever-evolving and extraordinary shopping experiences. With new artisans and local businesses added regularly from vintage books and records to jewelry and more.

2. THOMPSON CHEMISTS
From classic kit favorites like Embryolisse, Homeoplasmine and Mason Pearson to new kids on the block including B3 Beauty Balm, and Rebels and Outlaws Sacred Ceremony, this family-owned business is a makeup artist Mecca. Owners Gary and Jolie Alony have curated a place to pick up hard-to-find beauty favorites, listen to live music or meet locals like Patti Smith and Dick Page.

3. THE ALCHEMISTS KITCHEN
This serene shop for botanical medicines, herbal remedies & tastings, plus whole-plant beauty products has become a gathering spot for East Village locals, NYC icons, and shoppers seeking everything from spa services, classes and events to candles and concoctions.

4. SUBJECT
Regional spirits, small batch beer, and finishes prepared in-house with local ingredients equal perfection in one of their signature cocktails. Owners Brian and Leslie have created an all-inclusive space that is ideal for >> Pickup the Fall 2018 for Jame Vincent’s NYC full feature.
