INDUSTRY NEWS: MAC + CFDA / Vogue Fashion Fund COLLAB

COLLAGE_LRFINALMAC Cosmetics is proud to partner with the CFDA / Vogue Fashion Fund to offer outstanding womenswear alumni the opportunity to create their own capsule color collection. The five designers— Juan Carlos Obando, Tome, Cushnie Et Ochs, Tanya Taylor and Chromat —will be chosen as they evolve their creative vision from the runway to the world of makeup.  They will develop a proposal for a six-piece makeup collection that captures the essence of their vision. Early next year, the winning concept will go into production (with a bonus $50,000 prize), and the collection will hit stores in 2017.  This is the first time the CVFF has collaborated with MAC Cosmetics, who is known for creating pro-level products and capsule collections in collaboration with everyone from Lady Gaga to Giambattista Valli.

Recently the five designers had a beauty school crash course at the MAC Pro showroom in New York City.  As part of the collaboration, designers met with MAC executives—creative director James Gager; Jennifer Balbier in product development; and Gordon Espinet, who oversees artist training. Each designer team will
be paired with a MAC makeup artist to experiment with the vast formulas, finishes and shades ranges they will have to choose from. Lessons will also include packaging design, and marketing. “All the components that make a successful beauty line,” says CFDA president and CEO Steven Kolb, referring to the learning process.

Prabal Gurung, a former CVFF finalist, gold-clad collection with MAC debuted last year advises these designer to think expansively. “It’s an opportunity to tell your story through a different medium,” explains Gurung. stay connected with MAC and the designers on this journey!
