On Makeup Magazine had the pleasure of sitting down with Vlada Haggerty, a Los Angeles based makeup artist and beauty innovator. Vlada has made her mark in the beauty world with her exquisite and instantly recognizable lip-art (as seen and hugely popular on Instagram @vladamua). Newly appointed as the Lip Editor-in-Chief with Smashbox Cosmetics, Vlada had the opportunity to collaborate on the two new liquid lip collections, Be Legendary Liquid Metals and Be Legendary Liquid Pigments. Using the new collections, she worked with Smashbox to create beautifully intricate lip-art to promote the new collections, with looks that include her signature glossy lip drips. So what exactly does the role of Lip Editor-in-Chief entail? Check out our interview with Vlada below for details on her role and the upcoming Lip Art World Tour.
How did you get your start in the Makeup Industry?
I started my makeup career back in Ukraine. I was always interested in makeup and after taking some makeup classes I discovered that I feel very passionate about it!
You are widely known for your stunning lip art, and in the makeup world the eyes are usually the focus, what inspired you to want to focus on lips?
I think that’s exactly why I was so drawn to lips. There is so much to explore, the possibilities are endless. I love creating something that hasn’t been seen before
Congratulations on you new role as Smashbox Cosmetics Lip Editor-in-chief, What will your role entail?
I will be consulting on the new lip launches, create content for new campaigns, consult on colors and packaging and so much more!
Can you tell us about your collaboration on the new Smashbox Be Legendary Liquid Metals and Liquid Pigments?
It was an incredible experience! Smashbox really allowed me to be myself when creating designs for the lip looks and I am very grateful for this opportunity!
What makes these two new Smashbox products so unique and different than what we currently see in the market?
They are extremely pigmented and comfortable to wear. It’s the new generation of lip products. I would describe them as a hybrid between a liquid lipstick and a lip gloss. You get the pigmentation of a liquid lipstick and the shine and hydration of a lip gloss.
What drew you to want to collaborate with Smashbox?
After I swatched the very first shade of Liquid Metal I fell in love. I knew I could create some beautiful images using these colors and formula!
Where do you draw your inspiration from to come up with such unique lip looks?
I get inspired by everything around me. Colors, textures, new products, food, nature… there’s inspiration in everything!
One of your signature looks in your lip art is the oozing dripping glosses, is there a secret to how you achieve these looks?
The secret is the right consistency, good lighting and a great camera!
What can we look forward to with your collaboration with Smashbox?
Beautiful products and inspiring images!
What are some of your essentials products and techniques when creating Lip Art?
Angled brush, clear lip gloss and pros-aide.
How do you continue to grow as an artist?
I never stop learning and always try to stay connected to my community. Supporting each other is the key in growing.
Can you tell us a little more about the upcoming Lip Art World Tour?
Lip art tour will make stops all around the globe. New York, San Francisco, Chicago, Toronto are some of the cities we will be visiting in North America. Stay tuned for the International dates!
